What I got for Christmas!

So I know the world and his wife are all doing this post or video, but I really wanted to share with you guys what I got for Christmas, because I'm so pleased and grateful for what I received this year.
Now, I don't know about you guys, but for me opening my stocking is one of the best parts of Christmas! This is what I got in it this year. My favourite thing has to be the socks - I never have nice socks other than the ones I get at Christmas! Then there's quite a lot of stationary, which is always essential. I got some classic chocolate coins, which are dotted around, but switched up to white chocolate, because isn't that just much better??? I also got a magnifying mirror, which you clip onto a normal one, but it seems slightly odd as you have to get very close before you can see anything properly!

These are the presents I got from family members who were there on Christmas day. I absolutely love the jumper on the left from New Look - it's so cozy and obviously goes with everything. I've never had a proper handbag, so I'm still adjusting to this Nica one and really looking forward to using it for the first time! Of course, secretly the best presents are always money, especially at my age when I have very little of my own. I'm looking forward to buying lots of new beauty and skincare products in the new year.

All things Christmas!

So it's nearly that time again... Christmas is just around the corner! This year my family is coming to mine for the big day, when we're having goose instead of the traditional turkey as there's only 9 of us. I'm really interested to know about everyone's different traditions - in countries and families! I always get up and go into my parents' room to open our stockings, which is probably one of my favourite parts of the day. Then we have breakfast, but it's generally not anything that special. At some point family members will arrive or we will go to someone's house. Then it's the main attraction - CHRISTMAS DINNER!! This usually lasts over three hours in my family, what with the many different courses. After that we open presents, then people normally fall asleep. In the evening there will be cold meats, cheese and biscuits and the like and we will probably play a game like Charades or Articulate. What about you?

I don't know about you but I love Secret Santa so much. I mean firstly there's all the money you save by buying a present for one person rather than 6! But the best bit is turning into Sherlock Holmes to work out who has who! In the Secret Santa with my friends from college, I got a lovely cardigan and fruit pastilles (as always, there are a few inside jokes relating to both those presents!). I'm doing another one with my friends from my old school on Tuesday - I'm going to do a post about the presents I got, so you can see what I got then.

This is the look I'm going for on Christmas Day!

MUA eye primer, Maybelline colour tattoo in On and on bronze, a colour from Makeup Revolution's Essential Mattes palette, Topshop kohl eyeliner, Maybelline the Falsies, Maybelline Brow Drama, Paint the town red Vaseline

A colour from Ted Baker "Paint the town pretty"

Amazon Haul

This post has been a long time coming.... I got loads of Amazon vouchers last Christmas and this is what I bought with them!

Herlitz 8cm A4 Lever Arch Files, £3.49 each
I bought 5 lever arch files each with a different colour fruit covering them so I've organised all my stuff for school. I don't take them all to college with me every day, they stay at home and I bring a file with all the current bits of work I need. These folders were from Herlitz and only cost £3.49. They were 'add-on' items which means your order has to come to £10 before Amazon dispatch it, but the order can be made up solely of add-on items, so it seems like a good deal to me! The folders seem to be of very good quality as well and can fit lots of stuff in them.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation, £4 (add-on item)
It's always a bit risky getting makeup online as you're never sure on the shade! At first I thought the risk had paid off with this one but now I think it's a bit too dark. I think it's a pretty good foundation, although it's got a bit too much of a 'glowy' effect for my skin type.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, £4.19
At first I thought I'd made a huge mistake and got a shade that was way too light, but now I realise it's not a problem as I use it under my eyes, so it has a brightening effect. I tend to wear this without foundation and it creases quite a lot, so I have started to mix it with my moisturiser to make it less visible. This works well, but does make it a lot less pigmented. I've heard the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer is more moisturising so I think I'll get that the next time I buy a concealer.

Royal Cosmetics Foundation Brush, £2.51
I don't think this is great quality, but I wasn't expecting that with the price. I kind of regret buying this, because of what you'll see I bought just a few weeks later.
Maybelline The Colossal Cat Eyes Glam Black Mascara, £5.50

I really like this mascara, especially the curved brush which covers and shapes lashes very nicely. It does have a bit of an odd smell though, kind of like flowers but I can get over that!

I got a new phone for Christmas, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, so I bought 2 cases for it. It's pretty hard to find cases for this phone, these are from JammyLizzard and I think they both cost £5.95, but I can't seem to find them on Amazon any more. They fit the phone very well, almost too well as it's extremely difficult to get them off. I'm not too sure on the designs, but they're nice enough. They've definitely been very useful as I've dropped my phone a fair few times and the scratches on the back show the damage this would have done to the phone!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, £7 when I got it, but it's now gone up to £8.99 - still cheaper than in Boots though!
I love this brush, it's so soft and blends liquid and powder foundation out very well. I also use it for applying bronzer for contouring, but I use a fluffy brush to blend it out.

Real Techniques Shading Brush, £5.50
I love this brush so much!! It's the only eye brush I have, so it gets a lot of use! Amazing for applying and blending eyeshadow.
Maybelline Babylips Cherry Me, £3.99
I really don't know why I bought this from Amazon as it's only £2.99 in places like Boots and Superdrug! So I really don't recommend you do that. However, I do really like this as it's really pigmented and smells amazing.

Sleek Contour Kit, £6.49
This is a great contour kit that works really well. However, this is in the shade 'Light', and as you can see, it isn't that light!
Great Ideas Wooden Desk Tidy/Caddy, £18.75

I bought this to keep my make-up in. My collection isn't that large at the moment, but as it increases I can see it's soon going to be too small! However, I think it's a great way to store make-up because you can see exactly what you're reaching for.

I've been trying to wear a lot more nail varnish this year as I can't normally be bothered with it, but I really like it when my nails are all pretty. So I'm going to show a some looks I've tried out over the last few weeks. I'm sad to say that in a lot of the pictures the paint has already chipped, which I wasn't too happy about, but there you go.

Ted Baker (doesn't have a name/number but it's from the Paint the Town Pretty gift set) and Collection 2 Ice Cube as a base coat
I love this pale pink colour, as it's not too in your face and can go with practically anything. Something that annoyed me a bit with this is that you need two coats for it to even look like there's anything on your nails. The main problem I had though, although you can't see it in this photo, is that there were little air bubbles, which ruined the effect slightly. I'm not sure if this was down to the clear nail varnish underneath, which took a very long time to dry, so maybe I didn't wait long enough. Next time I will try this nail varnish on bare nails with a top coat and see how that goes, as it's just too pretty!

Barry M 43, Ted Baker  (doesn't have a name/number but it's from the Paint the Town Pretty gift set as well) as an  accent nail and  No. 7 Stay Perfect 51 as a top coat
I love this nail look! You need two coats of the Barry M but that doesn't matter when this is the result in my opinion. It stayed on for ages, I don't think there were even any chips when I took it off at the end of the week, definitely not on the accent nail with glitter. The No. 7 dries very quickly and obviously did its job on keeping the varnish on!

No.7 82, Barry M Burgundy Croc 343 or 233 (it says 2 numbers?) and No7 Stay Perfect 51 as a top coat.
The crackle effect came out in these 2 different ways so I thought I'd put in close ups of each of the results. I'm not sure if I like it that much but it is fairly pretty, although maybe not worth the effort considering it chipped quickly. It's a matter of personal opinion if you like this one, so comment below if you have any thoughts!

Alternating with Barry M GNP 3 Watermelon 234 (1st, 3rd and 5th nails) and Maybelline 273 Soho Green (2nd and 4th nails), with No7 Stay Perfect 51 as a top coat
I wanted to show you both these nail varnishes, but didn't want 2 with practically the same colour so I made it alternating! Both nail varnishes, especially the Maybelline one, chipped quickly, but I only did one coat so that probably explains it! I'm not so keen on the colour(s), although having a dark colour like this can be good as it often goes with more outfits.

Barry M 24 with No7 Stay Perfect 51 as a top coat
I LOVE this colour! Sorry it hasn't come out very well in the photo but it's a beautiful burgundy colour. Every time I wear this my mum tells me she loves it which is always a good thing! The last time I wore it it lasted around a week with no chips, but this time it only stayed on for a few days without chipping. Still, I really recommend this!

CURRENT - Loves and Dislikes

Today I'm going to be talking about some things I'm enjoying at the moment and others I don't like as much. It's not things I hate as I couldn't be that harsh (it's like how I never dislike a video on YouTube!), similarly I've only done one thing in each category I don't like because I find it more difficult to think of them.

  • Rather Be ft. Jess Glynne by Clean Bandit - This song is so different from the majority of mainstream music at the moment and it's so fun. I swear I could listen to this all day as it varies so much throughout.
  • Timber ft. Ke$ha by Pitbull - A bit tongue in cheek as it's obviously not the most well written song ever, but you just can't help dancing and singing along!
  • Billionaire ft. Bruno Mars by Travie McCoy - Kind of random but I just heard this on the radio and remembered how much I love it. I could even remember most of the words to the rap sections!

  • Shot Me Down ft.Skylar Grey by David Guetta - This song just makes me feel depressed as the melody is so downbeat.
TV Programmes
  • Waterloo Road - This is a long-term love for me, and I'm proud to say I've watched all the episodes ever made! I thought it was going downhill a bit over the last couple of series, but I'm really enjoying this one.
  • Outnumbered - Conveniently on after Waterloo Road at the moment, this is just hilarious! I don't know any other way to describe it, just WATCH IT if you haven't.
  • Call the Midwife - Perfect Sunday night telly! It always makes me cry, which you could think was a bad thing but I love a tearjerker.
  • Countryfile - My dad loves this programme, but seriously! How much does one person need to know about dormice?
  • SprinkleOfGlitter - Just my favourite person ever. So funny and beautiful - I love that she's a Mummy as well!
  • Troye Sivan - I only discovered him fairly recently (HOW? I hear you ask!), but he's hilarious! It sounds weird but I especially love his ending - if you haven't watched any of his videos, do, if only for the ending, you won't be disappointed by the video.
  • Zoella - I love her in general, but especially now we get to see her guinea pigs in some videos. SO. CUTE.
  • How could I dislike any YouTubers? Any person speaking I can watch to distract from a 500 word German essay is a friend of mine!
This Smurf ice cream I found - how cool is that? It tasted great too.

So there we have it! A few things I'm loving at the moment and um... two things I don't particularly like - OK so I didn't do very well on criticising things.

Thanks for reading! Comment below with any current loves or dislikes you have!

Sparkly Updates!

I went to France last week on an exchange as I study A level French, and I had such a great week! I got to know so many lovely people and my language skills improved a lot with the many, many, many guided tours. Did I mention there were a lot of guided tours? I went to the Seaquarium in le Grau du Roi and met this lovely fellow.

I've never seen a friendlier fish than this chap.

Oh and here is me trying to blend in with the scenery...
So after coming back from France I find my parents have got a puppy! I live on a farm, so she will be a sheep dog not a pet. ALTHOUGH LOOK AT HER I JUST WANT TO STROKE HER ALL DAY. She doesn't have a name yet really, the only thing we can think of is Storm but it doesn't seem to fit that well at the moment.

ALSO after a week without seeing her I of course had to meet up with my best friend! We had a good catch up while eating the best sweets in the Universe - sour Smurfs!!
By the way if some odd beings haven't seen the Smurfs or Smurfs 2, where have you been? Get yourself to Netflix!
Then we debugged my computer (oh, what an exciting life I lead), played the Sims aaaaaaaaaand *fanfare* CREATED HER BLOG!!! Go and check it out HERE.

And so off I go, back to my humongous pile of catch-up work I have to do... STAY IN SCHOOL KIDS :(

Hello there!
I went shopping the other day with some Christmas vouchers in hand and made a few purchases I'm very happy with.
I needed a new purse because my trusty old one broke the very morning I set out which was sad, but I was soon cheered up by the bird mascot on this gem.  I wasn't too keen on the brown at first, because I thought it looked a bit boring, but after looking around at some other purses I realised this was the one for me. I really love the paisley pattern inside and how much space there is for all my loyalty cards etc. The purse cost £15 from Accessorize, but I used my (friend's :*) NUS card and got 10% off, making it £13.

I also really needed a new bag to take to sixth form because I've been using a shoulder bag, which is so uncomfortable to wear when I have all my heavy folders and books. So I decided it was time to get a rucksack. I bought this simple but timeless bag from Primark for £9, which I hope will stick out for some time as I'm not too sure about the quality at that price. However, there are a lot of handy pockets on the outside which I love, and I can't wait to be able to finish the school day without an aching right shoulder!

My last purchase was this unusual necklace. I've wanted a longer necklace for a while, because it becomes so much more of a feature in an outfit. I also really love green and feel this piece will go with a lot of my clothes.

I hope you like my first ever blog post!
