I've decided that I'm not going to continue with monthly favourites posts (I gave up quickly after only one!). This is because at the end of January, with so many blog posts and videos, all containing loads of lovely products, books and food, I found it quite overwhelming. So I've taken inspiration from a few bloggers who do something similar, and I'm going to occasionally do a post like this with some favourites, but laid out in a slightly different way. (I do realise this is basically now February Favoutites time but sssshhh) This will also give me an opportunity to do mini reviews and not just talk about everything I love.

Currently listening to:
Love me like you do by Ellie Goulding - This song is just so easy to listen to, I don't know what it is, but I can't stop clicking on it. I don't know about you guys, but I have stages with music and at the moment I'm in one of those stages where I don't really care about it very much, unlike in January when I was feeling pretty musicy!
Ear Biscuits - Rhett and Link have come off their podcast hiatus! YAY. I love listening to this, even though I often don't actually know who the people they talk to are - I can't watch every single YouTuber ever! I have a confession to make actually... I've never actually watched any of Reht and Link's videos - in fact I'll do that right now.

Currently watching:
The Casual Vacancy - This is the TV adaptation of JK Rowling's novel. It's pretty dark so not necessarily enjoyable as such, but very gripping,
Becca Rose - She's got such a lovely personality! I started watching her a while ago, but then stopped for a time when I wasn't so interested in beauty for some reason, but now I have wholeheartedly returned!

Currently reading:
 - All the blogs from my January Favourites still stand, but at the moment I've been enjoying reading my best friend's blog Diary of the Little Things *cough* what a lovely name, I wonder who thought of that? *cough*. It was really cool to read about her recent trip to Budapest - the posts were just like diary entries with all her thoughts about everything.
- I hit a bit of a reading rut recently. I started about 3 books but then got bored by the end of the first chapter. The Ivy Tree has brought me out of that rut! It's an interesting concept and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Currently using:
 - Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze - This is just so great for any look - you can layer it up so it looks full on or you can go for a more subtle effect. I also found that when I used it with my Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye Fix Primer it lasted the whole day and into the evening as well, which is unheard of for me. I'm going to have to get my hands on Permanent Taupe so I can use it as a more neutral base.
 - Benefit Roller Lash - Although I wasn't too impressed when I first tried it (in this post), I've since been using it and I've been enjoying it a lot more than I did at first. I think it's a good one to really layer up into a dramatic look as I did the other night. However, I do find it slightly difficult to apply - I think the formula is quite dry/sticky, which possibly explains why so many beauty gurus were impressed when they tried it, as mascaras tend to be better after they've dried out. A lot of the formula seems to stick to the brush, which can result in getting a clump in the eye, which happened to me this week and I could see a black blob out of the corner of my eye for the whole day.

Currently loving:
 - You guys! I recently hit 150 followers on my Bloglovin, which I'm so blown away by! I haven't been blogging properly for very long, and 150 people is just a huge amount. Think about it - if that many people were in a room it would look like a lot. So thank you so much.
 - Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Cookies - These are on special offer for £1 at the moment, so as there's a Sainsbury's Local opposite my college I have probably been eating a few too many of these!

Currently doing:
 - The decision of where to go to university continues, but I won't bore you with that!
 - It's my friend's 18th birthday this weekend, so she's having a gathering, which is an occasion with some of my closest friends and alcohol, so it's bound to be a lot of fun!

Currently wanting:
Rimmel Scandeleyes Nude Eyeliner - I want something to wake my eyes up! This seems to be the only nude eyeliner I can find, but I'm open to alternative suggestions.
A lipliner - I'm not quite sure which one (I'm edging towards the Natural Collection one, as it's cheap) or which colour, but I know I need to get my hands on one!

Thanks for reading! What are you reading/using/loving at the moment?

So today I just felt like putting on some makeup and trying out some bits, so I did! This is the finished look - it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted, but I wanted to share with you how I achieved it and my thoughts on some of the products I used.

I started off by putting on Botanics Mattifying Day Cream and Botanics Hydrating Eye cream - I wasn't sure if to use moisturiser with a BB cream, but I decided to as I didn't want my skin to feel dry. I also put on some Vaseline - I recommend this one as mine was limited edition.

And this is what that looked like!

Just to warn you - I put everything on in a very odd order! I started off with the Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream in Light, which I blended in with my fingers. It was my first time using this and I really like it as it looks very natural. It's supposed to adapt slightly to your skin tone and I'm not sure if this is true, but for me it was a very close match to my skin. Then I put on a very small amount of the Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye Fix Primer and while I was waiting for it to dry I brushed through my eyebrows with Maybelline Brow Drama in Medium Brown. The eye primer does help eyeshadow stick around, but it can make blending a bit difficult. I don't like to do too much to my brows as they're already quite thick and I like the shape of them, so I just want something that adds some colour. I then went all over the lid with the beigey shade from Makeup Revolution's Mattes Palette using a Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush (all eye brushes from their Starter Set). I don't recommend the palette as the lighter shades aren't very pigmented and they're all quite chalky. The brush set is lovely, but my application skills leave a lot to be desired!

I then started using my W7 In the Buff palette, which is a dupe for the Naked 2 palette. I went in with Camel (dupe for Half Baked) on my Base Shadow Brush on the outer half of my eyelids. Then I put the matte shade Chocolate (Tease) through the crease with a deluxe crease brush. I used Onyx (Blackout) with the accent brush to line my top and bottom lashes. Now I know this is completely the wrong thing to do, but I highlighted my brow bone and inner corner with the eyebrow brush using Sand (Bootycall). I think using the eyebrow brush worked very well for the inner corner, as it was just the right shape. I used Maybelline Eraser Eye in Light to conceal dark under eye circles and blemishes. I think this concealer is better when I'm not wearing any base makeup, as it looked a bit cakey with the BB cream.

I then set all my base using Rimmel Stay Matte powder in Transparent using an Elf Complexion brush. I contoured my face with the bronzer and highlight from my Sleek Contour Kit in Light using the Real Techniques Expert Face brush and the complexion brush again. I applied Elf Cream Blush in the shade Vixen with the Elf Stipple Brush. I think this gives a really natural result. I went all over the face again with the complexion brush to blend everything together.

I then used Benefit Roller Lash, which I got with Elle magazine. I've heard so many amazing reviews, so I was slightly disappointed when I used it. It gave a good effect on one eye, but the other seemed to go very clumpy. I did like the mascara, I was just expecting a miracle product after everything I've heard! I liked it on the bottom lashes, as the applicator is so small. For lips, I used my Revlon Lip Butter in the shade Lollipop. I normally just dab this on for a subtle effect, but this time I went quite heavy and it came out ridiculously bright, so I rubbed off quite a bit and applied Maybelline Babylips Cherry Me over the top, as it's a bit darker.

I look dead behind the eyes!

Summer Plans

So as this my last year of sixth form, this summer will be a long one!! My last exam is towards the end of June and unis don't tend to start until the end of September at the earliest. So I have the opportunity to do lots of exciting things, which I intend to take!
My cousin is getting married in Dublin just two days after I'm finished for the summer, so that's perfect timing! As I have lots of family members in Ireland, I'm planning to spend some time out there after the wedding, possibly with my friend.
Holiday with friends
This is one that I think will be the most fun, but it's also the least likely to happen. My sixth form friends and I want to go abroad somewhere for about a week. The issue is actually planning anything! We can't decide where we want to go, if we will stay in a hotel or apartment, how we will get there... the list goes on. We should have done some planning by the time this post goes up, but I'm not sure how much will be achieved there! I would personally love to stay in an apartment in a Greek island, so hopefully I can persuade  the others to my way of thinking. We were originally planning to go interrailing, but we decided that the passes were too restrictive and expensive. I think it would be a great experience to go abroad with a large group of friends, which is something I've never done before.
My uncle is involved in sailing and used to be the captain of a tall ship. Therefore, he decided that instead of getting me or my cousins birthday presents, he would instead put some money towards us each going on a sail training course after we're 18. I'm not entirely sure what this involves, but I'm looking forward to it anyway! I think it will be quite an interesting and challenging experience. You get to choose where you start and finish the trip, but unfortunately all of the amazing-sounding ones going to places like the Norwegian Fjords are ridiculously expensive.
Au pairing
As I'm going to be studying languages at university, my mum thinks it would be a really good idea to do some au pairing in French or German speaking countries. I also think that would be extremely fun and useful, but I just don't see how I'm going to comfortably fit it in this summer. Maybe that'll be one for next year.
Spending time at home
As we as all of this, I really want to spend a fair bit of time at home, with my friends and family. It will my last summer before leaving home, at least temporarily, so I want to make the most of it. I should probably also get a job to get ready for that student debt!

Versatile Blogger Award/Infinity Dreams Award

I was recently nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by Ana in this post. Then, this week, I was nominated for the Infinity Dreams Award by Alice, here. I'm so grateful to both of these lovely girls for nominating me for these awards! I've decided to combine them into one post, as they have similar elements!

Rules of the Versatile Blogger Award:

  1. Thank the person who gave you this award, and leave a link to their blog
  2. Tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself
  3. Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  4. Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award

Rules of the Infinity Dreams Award:

  1. Thank and follow the blogger that nominated you
  2. List eleven facts about yourself
  3. Answer the questions given to you
  4. Nominate eleven more people and write some questions for them to answer
I'm going to list 5 facts and answer some of Alice's questions!

Facts about me:
  • I'm 18, meaning I'm a legal adult, which completely terrifies me. The other day, I went into Tesco to buy some ciders, and I decide to say the cashier as he's looking at my ID "THIS IS MY FIRST TIME BUYING ALCOHOL AFTER BEING 18!!" And he just looks away awkwardly...
  • Sort of related to the last fact, I'm trying to decide which university I want to go, which I'm finding completely impossible - every time I go to one, I think I like that one the best!
  • I am an only child, which makes people either think I'm spoilt or they're jealous of me not having annoying siblings! For me, I just don't know what it's like having brothers or sisters, so I don't know if I should be jealous of others or pleased!
  • I wear contact lenses and it makes my friends very confused any time I wear my glasses, because they think I've suddenly developed sight problems without telling them.
  • I eat soup at college everyday and the people working in the cafe know me so well, I don't even have to ask anymore as they already know what I'm going to get!
Alice's Questions:
  • If you could move to another country where would it be? I would love to live in a French or German speaking country at some point in my life, as I study A levels in those languages.
  • Your holy grail beauty product? I can't actually think of a holy grail product, but I do love my Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze.
  • Favourite shop? My favourite clothes shop is probably New Look, even though I wouldn't immediately think that - I just always seem to go for their styles of clothes and the prices are so good! Then there's Boots and Superdrug, which I love to spend a LOT of time in.
  • What are you looking forward to in 2015? So many things!! I'll have a very long Summer this year, so I've got a lot of plans (post coming up soon).
  • Do you have any pets? I live on a farm, so we have a lot of animals! But, regarding pets, we have 2 sheepdogs and 2 Jack Russells.

I'm going to nominate:

Alice Phillips
A Nesting Nomad
Pay With Polka Dots
Tea Tomorrow
The Fashion Ramblings
Say Cheesy Cake

This is a nomination for the Versatile Blogger Award, so I'm not going to give any questions!

I found the nominations quite hard, as I didn't want to double up nominations from my Liebster Award post! Please tell me if you respond to my nomination - I would love to read your facts and answers to my questions.

Thanks for reading!

January Favourites

As this is my first favourites post (unless you count this), some of these are more general favourites rather than specifically this month - but a lot of them relate specifically to January!

  • My notebook! It's been so useful for planning things this month, especially blog posts.
  • A shower puff - this is one of the more long term ones. I never used to use the shower puffs that come with a lot of sets but one day I decided to use this Sanctuary Spa one and I haven't looked back since! It just helps shower gel lather up so much.
  • Botanics Iconic Clay Mask - I've only used this a couple of times, but I already think it's really effective at getting rid of oils and reducing blackheads.
  • Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner - This isn't a specific favourite - I quite like the eyeliner but I don't think I'll be repurchasing it as it's not amazing. But this month I've really been loving using liquid eyeliner. I'm still not great, but I'm learning!
  • Revlon Balm Stain in Honey - I really love tinted balms like this one that make your lips feel better and you know will look nice as they fade away. I've spoken about this here (including the fact I'm not completely sure what it is!).
  • Vaseline Paint the Town Red - Continuing on from the above theme, I just love this Vaseline, but I think it was limited edition, unfortunately.
  • The Body Shop Honey Hand Cream - I don't often use hand cream as my hand aren't generally that dry, but this Winter they have been getting slightly dry. The scent of this hand cream is just amazing and it works so well.
  • This is an odd one, but I've recently discovered that Superdrug has an 10% NUS (UK student card) discount when you have their Beautycard, so I've been taking advantage of that!
  • The jumper I got at Christmas, from New Look (featured in this post) - Or just any jumper really, but as this one is quite new I thought I'd feature it here. Anything cozy and warm is a winner at the moment!
  • I think driving has to be one of my January favourites. In the past I have always hated and been scared of driving, but now I have a new driving instructor who is a lot more encouraging, which has made me enjoy it a lot more.
  • Those cards aren't just there for decoration! No, my friends and I play a lot of card games, and I really enjoy that. This month popular games have been Poker (without real betting) and variations on the game Diminishing Bridge (also known as Oh Hell, talked about here)
  • Podcasts - I absolutely love podcasts. I listen to them all the time - when I'm walking the dogs, getting ready, on public transport, EVERYWHERE. Some of my favourites this month have been Psychobabble, Tyler Oakley's podcast and That's What He Said, Greg James's. Both are very odd, but I find them hilarious!
  • MakeupSavvy - Just so brilliant! And I love how she buys a lot of makeup products from Amazon - it just makes so much sense guys - if you know what a product is like after seeing it in real life or having it yourself, buying stuff from Amazon is often just so much cheaper.
  • From Roses - A wonderfully written blog about lovely things.
  • Miss Budget Beauty (Blog and YouTube) - A great one for budget buys, as the name would suggest, but also brilliant for me, as she has oily skin, like I do, so I know the products she recommends will work fairly well on my skin. It sometimes seems like all beauty bloggers have normal to dry skin!!
  • MoreMarcus - There was a point where I thought Marcus's vlogs were becoming slightly boring, but now I feel like I've come full circle and I'm really enjoying them at the moment!
  • Queen! Since seeing in the New Year with Queen and Adam Lambert on TV, they have most definitely been in my current playlist.
  • Lips Are Movin' by Meghan Trainor - Just a really fun song
  • What Now by Rhianna - I thought I'd make it clear what a weird mix of music I listen to - someone mentions an old song to me and I listen to it on repeat for the next few weeks.
  • There are Worse Things I Could Do from Grease - To re-emphasise the last point!!

Thanks for reading!! What are some of your more random favourites from this month?
